2017 marks the 100th anniversary of an epochal event in human history: the Great October Socialist Revolution of 1917. For the first time, one-sixth of the earth’s surface was liberated from capitalism. How did the workers and peasants of Russia accomplish this great victory? What are the lessons we can learn today for the struggle against capitalism at a dead end and rising neo-fascism from Trump to Brexit to the Ukrainian junta?
Over the course of the coming year, this site will publish a selection of primary materials written in the heat of the revolution by participants, evaluations by leaders and activists, photos, graphics and films, and modern retrospectives. My hope is to stimulate your curiosity and also encourage further development of the Revolution’s lessons in today’s class struggle.
